I was born in Umuire, Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria. I am the seventh child of eight siblings, the second of only two boys. I moved to America with my wonderful wife, Ijeoma, and my three beautiful girls in 2006. My son was born here in 2007.
My parents taught me many lessons that made me the person I am today. They taught me how to care and share with others. They also taught me that the greatest investment one can make is to invest in people.
The Nigerian Civil War brought widespread famine and malnutrition. My parents were among the few who could afford food for their children. As a child, I invited other children to eat at our home. My parents supported my idea, feeding as many children as they could.
At the age of 22, I started a scholarship program that helped many students graduate from schools, colleges, and other vocational institutions. Education offers an avenue to escape many of the harsh realities of life—I was happy to provide that.
In 1998, the need to have a central place to carry out my vision and mission for charity became imperative. I founded “God’s Cover Ministries” which later became “God’s Cover Church International”.
I strongly believe that helping the poor inspires you to work harder and be more efficient. I invested all the money I made working for The Coca-Cola Company in Nigeria in charity work. I provided people with accommodations, food, and clothing—all from my own money. Some of that money went to a couple dozen women in Nigeria, seed money to start businesses to support their families. They’ve since grown those holdings considerably, now able to afford some of the comforts—homes, stores, college funds—they never thought they could have. I believe in teaching others how to fish rather than just giving them fish, treating them as equals not as hungry mouths to be fed. This instills the dignity of accomplishment.
I’ve spent my life earnings on others and have no regrets. I do not look for any recognition or repayment.
In 2011, I founded God’s Cover Church International in Queens, New York. I give spiritual counseling and support people in need. I want to touch the lives of other people in such a way that they feel compelled to do the same for others.
